NATIONAL MOURNING FOR FALLEN FIREFIGHTER

December 30, 2011

Volunteer Firefighter Paul Nelson, 21, of the Nipissing Township Fire Department in Ontario is being mourned by the Fire Services across Canada and internationally.  He died Tuesday, December 27, 2011 after an accident involving the fire truck he was driving on his way to a call.

“On behalf of the Canadian Fire Services, I extend our deepest condolences to Firefighter Nelson’s family and friends,” stated Hamilton Fire Chief Robert Simonds, President of the Canadian Association of Fire Chiefs (CAFC).

“As firefighters and Fire Chiefs, we share the grief being experienced within the Nipissing Township Fire Department and by the citizens of the Township of Nipissing,” Fire Chief Simonds said.

CAFC’S President emphasized that every firefighter in Canada knows he or she is in one of Canada’s truly dangerous professions.  “It is that knowledge which joins all of us together in mourning Firefighter Nelson.”
