CFO Program

The CFO designation highlights the professional conduct, training, education, management and leadership competencies required in today’s fire service.

Achieving the CFO Designation identifies the dedication of the individual in developing a formal strategy for career development and growth. It also emphasizes the individual’s focus on excellence and professionalism throughout their career. Achieving the professional designation as a Chief Fire Officer (CFO) recognizes that the individual has attained a status identified by peers, superiors, and subordinates.

The Canadian Branch, Institution of Fire Engineers (IFE) now assesses all applications for the CFO Designation.  This streamlines the application process resulting in a shorter turnaround time for the applicant.

With the Canadian Branch, Institution of Fire Engineers being accepted and recognized as the only fire engineering professional designation on a global scale, this partnership allows an individual with CFO designation to apply for membership as an associate, graduate, or member status with the Canadian Branch.

The application process is simple and is available in both official languages.

Go to the CAFC website at http://www.cafc.ca and complete the application form. Answer all of the questions as completely as possible and submit the application form with the $200.00 application fee.

All Chief Officers are encouraged to apply for the CFO Designation.  A list of current members is available on the CAFC web site.  Membership in the CAFC is a prerequisite in order to attain the CFO Designation.
