À l'approche de la saison printanière des feux de forêt, les membres du Comité sur l’adaptation climatique de l’ACCP invitent les chefs intéressés à une discussion de pré-saison.

À cette fin, une table ronde suivie d'une discussion ouverte et d'une séance de questions-réponses est prévue pour aider l’état de préparation des chefs. Tous les membres en règle sont les bienvenus.

As the spring wildfire season begins, members of the CAFC Climate Committee are inviting interested chief officers to a pre-season discussion to help fire chiefs prepare. 

To this end, a panel followed by an open discussion, and question and answer period is being planned as follow up to help members. All members in good standing are welcomed to attend.

Background:

The Canadian Association of Fire Chiefs’ (CAFC) Human Factors committee is curating and overseeing the development of a learning program focussing on Human Factors specific to the Fire Service

The committee has identified the following 6 preferred topics: (1) Introduction (What is Human Factors Science?); (2) Cognitive Psychology and Human Error; (3) Workplace Safety Systems; (4)Human Centered Design; (5) Leadership & Psychologically Safe Workplaces, and (6) Human Performance Improvement. You will find more details in the application form below.  

The intent of the Human Factors committee in developing a rapid response program is to provide every member of the fire service a baseline initial understanding of a broad cross section of human factors and human performance concepts; to inspire exploration and introduction of human factors and human performance across the fire service ; and to influence improved outcomes, safety, and quality of work life in Canadian fire services.

About the Call for Speakers:

This Rapid Response “Program” consists of 6 1-hour sessions/topics depending on how the topics and submissions cluster. This will be determined by the committee upon review. Instructors may provide a proposal for one topic or multiple topic submissions spanning an entire program if desired. In the latter case, instructors are still requested to put each topic on a separate application. The CAFC may not be able to review submission that do not follow the instructions.

The intended audience for the CAFC Rapid Response program is anyone in a fire and emergency leadership role (formal or informal) with bias towards emerging leaders and/or for established chief officers who have not had previous training or who are interested in retraining. All members of the CAFC will be welcomed.

About the Call for Speakers:

Instructors may provide a proposal for one topic, multiple topic, or an entire program (level) if desired. In the latter cases, instructors are still requested to put each topic on a separate application. The CAFC may not be able to review submissions that do not follow the instructions.

For December’s event, Michelle Vandevord, Associate Director for Saskatchewan First Nations Emergency Management and the first woman named president of the Aboriginal Firefighters Association of Canada, will share her career experiences and recommendations for increasing Equity, Diversity and Inclusion in the fire service.

Wounded Warriors Canada and Wayfound Mental Health Group are proud to partner with the Canadian Association of Fire Chiefs to provide a pilot delivery of the Before Operational Stress (BOS) virtual program.

The objective of this pilot program is to provide 15 participating Chiefs with theoretical and practical learning with respect to the impact of operational stressors in the line of duty, including information about the markers of operational stress, common reactions to trauma, and how to use coping behaviours to manage stressful situations when they occur.

The group will receive eight 1-hour instructional modules targeting the critical factors that influence the impact of operational stress. The sessions combine educational discourse with clinically facilitated group-based discussions where participants are encouraged to reflect on his or her own personal experiences, ideas, attitudes, and feelings about the content presented.

Each week, participants will have the understanding and support to practice incorporating the knowledge from each module into their operational roles. The class runs Friday at 3:00 pm EST-4:00 pm EST beginning October 22nd to December 10th.

The pilot program is being funded by Wounded Warriors Canada and will be completed by December, 2021.

Wounded Warriors Canada et Wayfound Mental Health Group sont fiers de s'associer à l'Association canadienne des chefs de pompiers pour offrir une prestation pilote du programme virtuel « Avant le stress opérationnel (ASO) ».

L'objectif de ce programme pilote est de fournir à 15 chefs participants un apprentissage théorique et pratique concernant l'impact des facteurs de stress opérationnel dans l'exercice de leurs fonctions, y compris des informations sur les marqueurs du stress opérationnel, les réactions courantes aux traumatismes et la façon d'utiliser des comportements d'adaptation pour gérer les situations stressantes lorsqu'elles se produisent.

Le groupe recevra huit modules d'enseignement d'une heure ciblant les facteurs critiques qui influencent l'impact du stress opérationnel. Les séances combinent un discours éducatif avec des discussions de groupe facilitées par des cliniciens, au cours desquelles les participants sont encouragés à réfléchir à leurs expériences personnelles, leurs idées, leurs attitudes et leurs sentiments sur le contenu présenté.

Chaque semaine, les participants auront la compréhension et le soutien nécessaires pour s'exercer à incorporer les connaissances de chaque module dans leurs rôles opérationnels.

La classe se déroule le vendredi de 15 h à 16 HNE, du 22 octobre au 10 décembre.

Le programme pilote est financé par Wounded Warriors Canada et se terminera en décembre 2021.

CAFC's Rapid Response in Diversity and Inclusion: Creating a Fire Service for All Program. Phase I will provide six workshops on the foundations of EDI, a focus on gender specific issues, and provide tools and resources.

Each session includes didactic and interactive discussions, a top 10 tip sheet, and a confirmation of learning quiz. Individuals who take all six workshops and pass the quiz for each section (repeatable), can receive a certificate of completion.

Each session will also have a brief "ask me anything" session whereby individuals experienced in this area can provide their opinions and suggestions. The sessions will be in English only.

Dans le cadre du programme Création d'un service d'incendie pour tous de l'ACCP nous sommes heureux d'ouvrir l'inscription à Réponse rapide en matière de diversité et d'inclusion. La Phase I prévoit six ateliers sur les fondements de l'EDI, avec un accent sur les aspects sexospécifiques.

L‘ACCP, en collaboration avec maîtres Ross Dunsmore et James LeNoury, d'Emstrata Law, un groupe de cabinets d'avocats spécialisés dans le droit de l'emploi et du travail, est ravie d'organiser à compter de février 2021 une session bimensuelle gratuite « Ask the Lawyers/Demandez aux avocats » à l’intention de ses membres, axée sur le droit de l’emploi et des relations de travail.

Ross Dunsmore, James LeNoury, et les membres d'Emstrata Law ont traité d'innombrables dossiers ayant trait au droit de l'emploi et du travail. Dans leur pratique, les avocats d'Emstrata Law aident leur clientèle à s'orienter stratégiquement dans les nombreuses questions qui se posent constamment en matière de droit de l'emploi et du travail au Canada.

Les sujets abordés concernent : à la fois les lieux de travail non syndiqués et syndiqués, notamment l'interprétation, l'application et la violation présumée des conventions collectives ; les droits de la personne, y compris la gestion de l'assiduité, l'adaptation aux handicaps ; la discipline progressive ; l'exercice des droits de la direction ; le protocole de négociation-arbitrage ; la réponse aux griefs et les nouvelles décisions arbitrales et judiciaires.

The absence of national code requirements for existing buildings is resulting in a patchwork approach to dealing with alterations across Canada. This causes confusion in the industry, among regulators and building owners/operators, and may even result in unsafe practices.

In order to address these concerns, the Canadian Commission on Building and Fire Code (CCBFC) and the Provincial and Territorial Policy Advisory Committee on Codes approved in principle the appended report on Alterations to Existing Buildings. 

The report describes the overarching principles and a general concept of the triggers and decision points of potential future code requirements that would apply to the alterations to existing buildings.

The CCBFC is now seeking broader stakeholder input and would appreciate if you could provide your thoughts on the following  questions by August 30, 2019.

D’un bout à l’autre du Canada, l’absence d’exigences relatives aux bâtiments existants dans les codes nationaux donne lieu à une approche incohérente en matière de transformations. Cela sème la confusion au sein de l’industrie ainsi que parmi les responsables de la réglementation et les propriétaires/exploitants de bâtiments, et pourrait même occasionner des pratiques non sécuritaires.

Afin de tenir compte de ces préoccupations, la Commission canadienne des codes du bâtiment et de prévention des incendies (CCCBPI) et le Comité consultatif provincial-territorial des politiques sur les codes ont approuvé en principe le rapport intitulé Transformations apportées aux bâtiments existants ci-joint.

Ce rapport décrit les grands principes et un concept général des déclencheurs et des points de décision concernant les exigences futures potentielles des codes qui s’appliqueraient aux transformations apportées aux bâtiments existants.

Le CCCBPI sollicite maintenant une plus vaste participation des parties intéressées et vous serait reconnaissant de bien vouloir lui faire part de vos commentaires sur les  questions suivantes d’ici le 30 août 2019.
