Captain Jenn Dawkins, Vancouver Fire and Rescue Services, BC
About:

Jenn Dawkins boasts a 27-year career in the fire service, initially as a Maple Ridge Fire Rescue volunteer in 1997 and currently as a Captain in Suppression with Vancouver Fire Rescue. In 2019, she faced aggressive ductal carcinoma, undergoing a mastectomy and four months of chemotherapy during the pandemic lockdown.

Notably, Jenn played a pivotal role in 2016 when she, along with a group of women, supported the BC Professional Firefighters Association in advocating for Breast Cancer’s inclusion in presumptive legislation. Ironically, she became the first to be diagnosed under this newly added provision.

Since her diagnosis, Jenn has emerged as a passionate advocate for breast cancer education. She actively participates in the CAFC Cancer Committee, leads a team of firefighters at the annual CIBC Run for the Cure, and shares her cancer journey on the Delta Police Chief’s Bend Don’t Break Podcast.
