Overview
Every year the Canadian Association of Fire Chiefs honours fire chiefs, departments and more at the annual national conference, Fire-Rescue Canada, held in September of each year. This robust awards program consists of the national Fire Chief of the Year Award, the Proud Practices in Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Award, the CAFC Award for Firefighter Cancer Prevention. Below you will find a brief description of each award and a link to more details, including the applications.

Fire Chief of the Year Awards
Each year, the Canadian Association of Fire Chiefs (CAFC) and the Fire Underwriter's Survey host the Fire Chief of the Year Awards to recognize contributions from Fire Chiefs that go above and beyond the expected role. There are two awards; one for a Volunteer Department Fire Chief, and one for a Career or Composite Department Fire Chief. More here.

2025 Proud Practices in Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Award
As part of the CAFC’s Fire Service for All Action Plan for Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (ED&I), the CAFC has committed to developing an award to recognize leaders in this area. It has also committed to identifying leading practices that are already in effect across the country and to facilitating the sharing of learnings. More here. The deadline for all submissions is August 8, 2025.

2025 CAFC Award for Firefighter Cancer Prevention
The CAFC’s Cancer Committee has launched the CAFC Award for Firefighter Cancer Prevention to honour the legacy of Mr. Graham Pawlett, Past President of CVFSA and National Advisory Council (NAC) members who had proposed the motion for CAFC to take more initiative in the area of volunteer firefighter cancer prevention to the NAC, and subsequently served as the inaugural CAFC Cancer Prevention committee chair, whose work is in service of all types of firefighters.
