Fire Rescue Canada began with our opening ceremonies, presented by Service de sécurité incendie de Montréal, with remarks from CAFC President Ken McMullen, MP Gord Johns, a representative from the City of Montreal, Lester Rich from the US Fire Administration,
and video remarks from Chief Richard Liebmann and Minister Harjit Sajjan

MP Gord Johns was also given a token of our appreciation for his championing of the Volunteer Firefighter Tax Credit Increase

The opening ceremonies concluded with the memorial to those firefighters who have fallen in the past year
Following the opening ceremonies, the delegates got to spend time together at the opening reception and Hospitality Suite

During breaks and meals, delegates had the opportunity to view the tradeshow and learn more from each exhibitor.
Monday began with breakfast sponsored by First Due, followed by plenaries featuring our cross country check up with the CAFC National Advisory Council
It continued with an update on the World Fire Congress 2024
Delegates also attended plenaries on Emergency Management, as well as hear insights on the wildfires of 2023, with a coffee break sponsored by Lakehead Collage

In the afternoon, after lunch sponsored by Holmatro, delegates got to learn about modern approaches to fire service management, and attended concurrent sessions that focused on a wide array of topics such as leadership development, WildFireSat, and mental health
The afternoon also included the sponsor and exhibitor reception, giving delegates and exhibitors more time with each other
Monday evening was the FRC Fun night, where delegates got to enjoy music form the Nick Stratccini Band and a trivia night.

Tuesday morning, after breakfast sponsored by Call2Recycle, CAFC hosted our Annual General Meeting, and delegates got to start preparing for Government Relations week with GR Boot Camp.

Plenaries on Tuesday also included discussion on suicide at the station and firefighter mental health, and the housing crisis

MP Sherry Romanado and representatives from Health Canada also provided an update on the Firefighter Cancer Framework

During the morning coffee break, delegates participated in a raffle with the exhibitors, where they got to win various prizes
Tuesday afternoon, after lunch sponsored by OnStar, concurrent sessions included discussions on mega-warehouses, lithium ion batteries,
mental health, and crisis communications.
FRC 2024 also hosted a companions program, which included a meet and greet breakfast, tours of Montreal, and an “Ask Us Anything” with psychologists Dr. Kelly Schwartz and Dr. Meghan McElheran.

One of the highlights of Fire Rescue Canada is the annual gala, which is intended to celebrate excellence and present awards.

This year’s gala was sponsored by JVCKENWOOD, and we thank them and all our sponsors for making our conference possible.

Our guest of honour this evening was MP Sherry Romanado, who championed in the House of Commons the Firefighter Cancer Framework.
Music for this evening was provided by Nic from Quality Entertainment and Mia Kelly, one of Canada’s rising star singers

FRC 2024 was MC’d by Chief Keri Martens and Deputy Chief Tyler Pelke.
They were presented with a token of our appreciation by the CAFC President

This year’s Volunteer Fire Chief of the Year award was given to Chief Rick Elder from Dalmeny Fire and Rescue.

For the first time in several years, there were two Career Fire Chief of the Year award recipients;
Chief Paul Boissonneault from Oakville Fire Department and Chief Fire Chief Keven Lefebvre from Leduc County Fire Service.

The 2024 Equity, Diversity and Inclusion award was given to Calgary Fire Department for their case study of
Indigenous Fire Camp. All submissions can be found on our website for those who are interested in learning more.

This year, 10 Fire Chiefs completed the Executive Chief Fire Officer Program, and 5 were in attendance at the gala
to accept their certificate and pin and swear the ECFO oath

Deputy Chief Ivana Irwin, Chair of the Cancer Prevention Committee announced the launch of a new award in memory of Graham Pawlett,
former chair of the Cancer Prevention Committee, aimed at recognizing firefighter cancer research and prevention work in the fire sector

CAFC President gave this year’s President Award to Chief Peter Krich, outgoing Chair of the NAC,
for his many contributions over the years to the CAFC

Chief Peter Krich was then invited back to the stage to swear in the new CAFC Board of Directors, which includes
Chief Ken McMullen, President, Red Dear Fire Department, Chief Keri Martens, Vice-President, Banff Fire Department,
Chief Paul Boissonneault, Secretary, Oakville Fire Department, Chief Trevor Brice, Treseror, Okotoks Fire and Rescue,
Chief Greg Jones, Member-at-Large, Amherst Fire Department, and Chief Ken Uzeloc, Member-at-Large, Kamloops Fire Rescue
