Notable operational achievements include his role as Incident Commander for the 2013 Gainford train derailment, deployment as a group supervisor for the 2016 Horse River wildfires 2011 Lesser Slave Lake Wildfire. In 2023, Shawn McKerry is most proud of the opportunity to lead a team from Lakeland College of students and instructional staff to support the wildfire fight in Parkland County.
