Petition in Support of a National Fire Administration

SIGN THE ELECTRONIC PETITION NOW

About the petition:

Every year, fire-related disasters grow in scale and severity, devastating homes and communities in nearly every province across Canada. Yet, unlike any other G7 country, Canada still lacks a centralized, national body to lead and coordinate fire and emergency safety policy efforts, leaving fire and life safety issues in a blind spot and close to 100,000 firefighters without mechanisms to deploy to areas that need them most.

That's why a National Fire Administration for Canada is no longer just an idea, it’s a necessity. It would fill a critical gap by driving prevention, coordinating response, and saving lives. A National Fire Administration will bring essential fire and life safety expertise to every federal policy priority that needs it: from housing and wildfire management, to infrastructure, electric vehicles, lithium-ion batteries, and nation-building projects.

By signing this petition, you’re helping to protect Canadians and build a safer, more resilient future for all.

Petition asking the Federal Government to establish a National Fire Administration:

We, the undersigned residents of Canada, draw the attention of the House of Commons in Parliament Assembled
to the following:

Whereas:

  • Canada has around 3,200 fire departments of which approximately 80% rely solely on volunteer firefighters,
  • The scale and complexity of events Canadian fire services are expected to respond to have increased dramatically in recent years and that trend is anticipated to continue,
  • All levels of government in Canada are involved in aspects of fire and emergency management,
  • Collaboration and strategic coordination are necessary to prepare for major emergencies and ensure efficient use of resources; and
  • There is a need to integrate a fire and emergency management perspective into policy and decision making for other issues, including, but not limited to, housing, green technology, transportation, tariffs, first responder mental health, and defense.

Therefore, we, the undersigned, citizens and residents of Canada, call upon the Government of Canada to support Motion M-12 and work in collaboration with the country’s fire chiefs to establish the Office of the National Fire Administration located within Public Safety Canada.
